A bar in the basement, it’s already plumbed. That’s where it began for this newer build in a classic South Minneapolis neighborhood, though not quite where it ended. We made subtle interventions to the layout and defined the living and bar areas using architectural details inspired by craftsman details. The client’s love of flowers inspired the selection of the 70’s floral sconces, as well as the incorporation of a perennial favorite William Morris paper in playful contrast to a second wallcovering in geometric cork. Deep greens are a through-line, down to the impasto-like quartzite for the bar’s counter and backsplash. A custom walnut and brass table was designed, and the client’s own antique corbels create a ledge which is home to the record player and frame the shotski (this one has a familial tie). A love of snow-skiing inspired custom designed cashmere blankets that we had embroidered with the various places she’d skied throughout her life.
